We finished our kidding season with a bang yesterday. Heart had triplets, 2 bucklings and a very nice doeling, about 4 PM. She needed just a little help with her babies and I'm glad we were there as the last two were breach. She got them all cleaned up, full of colostrum and then bedded down for some rest.
Harley wrapped it up about 11 PM with 2 more gorgeous bucklings. It seems like we spent the night in the barn but I'm glad we did. Harley's first buckling was huge...he is half grown already! She needed lots of help from both of us and I really don't think he would have made it out alive if we hadn't been there to help pull. Both little guys are rested up, eating well, and playing some today.
Today was a busy day as lots of folks were wanting to buy goats this morning. We had a couple with their young children out to visit. They ended up getting 2 Boer wethers and a Boer doeling for their "people kids" to show in 4-H. :)
In addition to our visitors, we sold 2 other Boer wethers today to a young lady that shows in the Tulsa area and a Lamancha doeling to a nice lady from Bixby, OK.
We are so glad to be a part of that tradition here at RR. We would like to encourage more young people to get involved with their local 4-H/FFA chapters and become a part of this lifestyle. It's a wonderful learning experience that teaches young folks so much.
Russell Ranch is located in beautiful NE Oklahoma, just a few miles from the Illinois river in Green Country. There are lovely rolling hills, lots of wonderful lakes and rivers, and forests full of wildlife.
